The most important homework for third graders is reading at least 20 minutes every weeknight and at least 40 minutes (total) on the weekend. The weekend reading can be done all at once or in chunks. Each student should record all reading in his/her agenda, and the parent should initial. Please note: The nightly reading assignment increases to 25 minutes in second quarter and 30 minutes in third quarter in order to help students increase their reading stamina.
In addition to reading, students are encouraged to practice math fluency for 5-10 minutes each evening. Mrs. Brownlow will communicate with each child what the focus of this study/practice should be.
Most nights, students will complete a Math Daily Review worksheet.
Students will also read and answer questions about one Scholastic News magazine per week. This will be assigned on Monday and due on Friday.
Last, students will be responsible for reviewing their Vocabulary Workshop at home and studying for quizzes which occur every other Friday.
Students record their homework in their agendas daily. Parents should sign the agendas each night.
